What happens when it’s not just startups vying for capital, but investors who have to explain why they’re the right partners? At Investor Days Thuringia 2026, perspectives shifted repeatedly at the Kontor Erfurt. That is precisely where the strength of the format lies: bringing together people with different perspectives on innovation—and creating new opportunities for Thuringia as a hub for innovation.

Normally, the roles are clearly defined: Startups pitch, investors listen, ask questions, and make decisions. At Investor Days Thuringia 2026, things were different—at least for a while. During the “reverse pitches,” investors themselves took the stage to explain what technologies they were looking for and what they could offer young companies.

A small role reversal with an important message: Good financing isn’t just about capital. It’s about industry knowledge, networks, strategic support—and whether both sides are truly a good fit for each other.

Technology Meets Capital

About 300 guests gathered at Kontor Erfurt on June 11. Twenty technology-focused startups presented business models and solutions in fields such as life sciences, GreenTech, robotics, DeepTech, artificial intelligence, and materials science.

But the Investor Days weren’t limited to the stage. Through one-on-one conversations, the Innovation Arena, and other networking events, founders connected with investors, companies, and key players in the innovation ecosystem.

From the perspective of the Thuringia Foundation for Technology, Innovation, and Research, this is precisely where the value of the format lies: bringing together people who bring different resources to the table for innovation—technology, capital, entrepreneurial experience, or access to markets.

"Investor Days Thuringia is the most important platform for innovative companies in Central Germany."

A good idea alone isn't enough

In her speech, Foundation Chair Christiane Kilian therefore looked beyond the individual pitches: “Investor Days Thuringia is the most important platform for innovative companies in Central Germany.”

This is where scientific excellence, entrepreneurial thinking, and capital converge. These three factors can determine whether a technology will become an innovation with economic impact.

Thuringia boasts strong research capabilities, industrial expertise, and technology-driven startups. But even an outstanding idea doesn’t automatically find its way to the market. Companies need access to capital, the right partners, and networks that open doors. For the foundation, Investor Days Thuringia are a tool for specifically fostering these connections.

A Look at Thuringia

Colette Boos-John, Thuringia’s Minister of Economic Affairs, Agriculture, and Rural Development and chair of the foundation’s board of trustees, also emphasized the event’s importance for the region. She described the Investor Days Thuringia as a flagship event for Thuringia as a hub for business and innovation.

This shifts the perspective once again: It is not just a matter of what good ideas a location generates. It is also a matter of whether companies there find the conditions they need to grow.

Investor Days Thuringia showcase Thuringian technologies while also broadening our horizons—to investors, expertise, and partners far beyond the Free State of Thuringia.

Pikes Impresses the Jury

PIKES, based in Großlöbichau, demonstrates what such a path might look like. The Thuringian startup was previously part of the Thuringian Regional Innovation Program (TRIP) and impressed the jury at Investor Days Thuringia. The team won the award from the Thuringian Foundation for Technology, Innovation, and Research.

We’ll explain how PIKES developed its technology, what role TRIP played in the process, and what’s next in a separate story.

Changing Perspectives

At the end of a Pitch Day, it’s easy to quantify the number of participants and the prizes awarded. What’s harder to measure is what comes out of the conversations afterward: a follow-up meeting, a partnership, or an investment?

That is precisely where the impact of Investor Days Thuringia lies. Founders gain insight into the perspective of investors. Investors discover new technologies. Players from outside the region experience Thuringia as a hub for innovation.
