On 1 October 2019, Prof. Dr. Mark Jentsch was appointed Professor of Energy Systems at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar. In the coming years, it will demonstrate the potential of hydrogen applications and specifically promote the further development of the energy industry in research and teaching. The newly established professorship is supported by the Thuringian Ministry of Science, the company AVX/KUMATEC Hydrogen, the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and the STIFT.
For around 20 years, Prof. Jentsch has been dealing with the interactions between energy, climate, buildings and urban development. After studying architecture in Wismar, Jentsch moved to the University of Southampton, where he received his doctorate from the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Environment in 2010. Two years later, he was appointed junior professor of “Urban Energy Systems” at the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and returned to Germany after more than seven years of research and teaching abroad.
Currently, Prof. Jentsch’s research focuses on the connections between the provision and use of energy. The focus of his latest work is on the potential of hydrogen applications as a building block for a comprehensive energy and mobility transition. With his appointment as Endowed Professor of Energy Systems, he wants to intensify his research activities and pave the way for sustainable hydrogen production and use in the electricity industry, transport and heat supply. The professor is supported by strong partners from science, industry and politics. The aim is to advance the decentralized hydrogen economy of tomorrow and implement innovative model projects in the Free State of Thuringia.
