Every day, volunteers and educators from kindergartens and schools throughout Thuringia work to get children and young people excited about STEM, to give impetus and to promote a spirit of research. To honor this commitment, we invited to the MINT Gala Reception in Weimar on October 25. The event was held under the patronage of the Thuringian Minister of Economics, Science and Digital Society, Wolfgang Tiefensee, and Helmut Holter, Thuringian Minister of Education, Youth and Sports.
Wolfgang Tiefensee and our board member Dr. Sven Günther honored the STEM players from education and research as well as companies on the stage of the Weimarhalle.
13 kindergartens and one primary school were honored as “houses where children conduct research” because they integrate STEM for sustainable development and research into their regular offerings. 16 Thuringian schools are committed to future-oriented STEM education and integrate digital technologies and methods into their lessons. For this, they received the “MINT-friendly school” and “digital school” seals. This was followed by an award from six Thuringian companies for their newly opened youth business workshops (JUW), in which they are committed to the next generation of skilled workers in STEM professions. In the JUW, children and young people can get to know technical skills in a practical way and directly in the company. In addition, volunteer project supervisors, jurors and research mentors were honored for their commitment to the Jugend forscht competition.

STIFT board member Dr. Sven Günther is grateful for the commitment in all Thuringian regions: “Arousing curiosity, strengthening talents for STEM professions and thus actively shaping the future – this is only possible thanks to committed schools, educators and volunteers from all over Thuringia. We want to thank you for that today!”
