School WITH Science in Jena

How teachers can incorporate the latest scientific findings directly into the classroom has been experienced by more than 70 Thuringian teachers since Thursday in Jena. The conference Schule MIT Wissenschaft invites teachers of mathematics, natural sciences, computer science and technology (STEM) to get the latest information directly from science. From 6 to 8 June, teachers from all over Thuringia were able to take away a lot of scientific inspiration and very practical tips for teaching.

The idea comes from the MIT Club of Germany e.V., which follows the traditional model of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge with the event “School WITH Science”. Since 1989, dedicated teachers from all over the world have been invited there to learn about the latest developments in the natural sciences and engineering.

In order to spread the special ethos of MIT in Thuringia as well and to enable in-depth further training for teachers in natural sciences and technology, the Foundation for Technology, Innovation and Research Thuringia, together with the MIT Club of Germany e.V., is organizing the 9th Conference School MIT Science.

Dr. Sven Günther, Chairman of the Foundation for Technology, Innovation and Research Thuringia, is enthusiastic about the conference and says : “School MIT Science is not a classic advanced training for teachers. We bring together leading scientists from the field with teachers from Thuringia. In this way, not only do the latest scientific findings come directly to the school, but also the enthusiasm and spirit that characterize discovery, research, and invention at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology MIT. With motivated teachers, new ideas and inspiration, STEM teaching in Thuringia is getting a real further development through Schule MIT Wissenschaft.”

With a varied series of lectures, workshops and exchange of experiences, leading scientists from astronomy, biology, chemistry, physics and technology presented their current research topics and were able to encourage the participating STEM teachers to discuss and exchange ideas.

We would like to thank all speakers and especially all teachers who make the conference what it is. We are happy when we inspire WITH STEM at Schule MIT WISSENSCHAFT!

We would like to thank the supporters of the conference in particular. In particular, the Thuringian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Science and Digital Society and the Thuringian Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports.
